Hi, everyone! MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
We are throwing a pizza party for everyone who ran with us during the summer season in prep for a special race, not just the Chicago Marathon. We calculated that by October 20th, everyone in the SummerWits group will have finished their races.
One of my SummerWits running buddies, Jeff Chandler, and his family business, Coz Pizza (http://cozs-pizza.com/) have generously offered to sponsor this pizza party at their restaurant. Here are the details:
WHAT? FREE pizza to finishers and drinks are on your own.
WHEN? October 20th, from 7 - 9 PM
WHERE? Coz Pizza, 4441 Ash Grove Drive, Springfield, IL 62711
Jeff reserved a loft for 30 people. Please RSVP on the blog, so we can get a good head count.
Don't forget to bring your medals! :)

Saturday's 11-mile run- FLAT, FLAT, FLAT!
Hey, everyone! It's cut back time before the BIG DAY! I'm posting this now, so you can plan ahead for this Saturday. This is a flat route that we need, as we wind down the miles. SummerWits is also winding down organized mid-run Wednesdays, so please get the mileage in on your own. Luckily, there are directions already included by the previous author, if you need them. If you want to get in 12 miles, a lap or two of Panera at the end will do it.
Thanks to Bill Stokes for all his help with the route and several hydration stops! I am hoping our fearless other hydration leader, Doug, will help us out on Saturday!
Also, there is talk about having a SummerWits post-party...any ideas?
See you all Saturday, at Panera West, at 5:30 AM.

Update to 23 Mile Route for Saturday September 18
Hi SummerWits! Bill Stokes here. Since Linda's post with the link to the route is broken and I know she is asleep already I'm posting a new link. Here it is: http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=395361
You might notice that I have you running up 6th street from Capitol to Lincoln Park. I won't change the map but Linda is planing to change the written directions to have you run up 5th instead. It will be safer to run against the traffic.
As Linda indicated in her post the route has lots of possible restroom stops. We also are going to make sure there is plenty of water and Gatorade about every 3 miles.
NOTE for those not trying to qualify for Boston:
Remember to keep your target pace between water stops but take a minute or two to hydrate every three miles. If you stop for 1 minute every stop you will only add 7 minutes to your time for the day. If you stop for 2 minutes every water stop you only add 14 minutes to your time.
If you average 10 minute miles on this 23 mile route your time with 1 minute stops will be about 4 hours total. So your full marathon time would be about 4 hours and 30 minutes to 4 hours and 40 minutes. Thats a great time.
If you go out with an 8:30 to 9:30 pace and can't sustain it for 4 hours you'll end up with about the same marathon time as running a 10 minute mile consistently throughout the race. I know that might be boring but strategy is very important on this distance!
See you Saturday morning.

Saturday's 23-miler
IT'S THE BIG ONE! Bill S came up with a route that allows for bathroom stops; unlike the one I was thinking, straight from Springfield to Chatham and back on the trail. He and Kimee will put out water stops as marked. We will start @ Panera West @ 5:30 AM. See you soon!
Click here for the route. I will post directions before Saturday's run.
